Bus and skip lorry in collision

Four people have been taken to hospital and seven others have been assessed by ambulance crews following a road traffic collision in Solihull today.


West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Haslucks Green Road, near the railway station in Shirley at 4.15pm this afternoon.

 

A paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle, the Hazardous Area Response Team, four ambulance crews and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the incident.

 

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found a double-decker bus and a skip lorry that had been in collision.

 

“Eleven people were assessed at the scene by ambulance personnel and a doctor, who had been travelling on board the air ambulance.

 

“Four patients from the bus were treated at the scene and required further hospital treatment.  

 

“A man, believed to be in his 50’s, was treated at the scene for a leg injury. A woman, also believed to be in her 50’s, was treated for a head injury. Both patients were fully immobilised and conveyed to Heartlands Hospital for further assessment and treatment.

 

“A second woman, believed to be in her 40’s, also required further hospital treatment after suffering an ankle injury. The woman was treated on scene and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

 

“A forth passenger, a woman believed to be in her 80’s, was assessed at the scene and conveyed to Solihull Hospital as a precaution.

 

“Seven others, including four adults and three children, were assessed at the scene but did not require further hospital treatment.”
