Wednesday 8th February 2012 – 11.47pm – Murray MacGregor.

A young woman was trapped for over an hour after the car she was driving collided with a telegraph pole in Telford.

The crash happened just before 9.30pm on the sliproad of the A442 from Queensway onto Brockton Way in Telford.

A community first responder came across the crash and called for assistance.  An ambulance and an incident support officer were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found a car that had suffered considerable damage to the driver’s side door which had been pushed into the passenger compartment.

“Ambulance staff worked with firefighters to free the 25 year old woman who comes from the Telford area.

“The roof and door had to be removed to allow her safe removal from the wreckage.  In total it took just over an hour.

“The woman was suffering from pain in her pelvis, hip and leg.  Due to the nature of her injuries she was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board and taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”
